TS, DVDRip, R5, CAM, SCR, DVDSCR, WP etc and a lot more these types of word we see when we download movies from internet. But what they actually mean. These words are quality symbol of a video file and if you understand them then you will get a idea about what could be the quality of the video file.
TS and CAM
TS is the short of TELESYNC and Both TS and CAM usually done by digital video camera. But basically they have some difference. CAM have the following disadvantages. As it is recorded directly from cinema hall so the camera placement may be not perfect, there may have some angle, with lots of noise, Camera shaking etc. On the other hand TS is recorded in an empty cinema hall and with professional digital video camera, and also use external audio source. Hence there quality should be better then those of CAM. But nowadays we see many of CAM quality videos are leveling under TS so before downloading such types of files check either screen shot or sample video.
SCR and DVDSCR
SCR stands for SCREENER. In SCR the aspect reatio normally 4:3. It is a pre VHS tape. Normally SCR quality can be from poor to excellent depending it VHS recorder but the main disadvantage is that you will see a warning message scrolling at the bottom of the window. It is also advisable to watch the sample video before downloading.
On the other hand DVDScr quality is same as SCR and also depend on the skill of the ripper.
DVDRip
It the most common downloaded format as the quality is almost excellent. DVDRip is commonly released with SVCD or DivX/XviD encoding. That is also another reason of this DVDRip formats popularity. Combine the name looks like as Serendipity.2001.DVDRip.XViD etc. First section denotes the name of the movie the second section is the year of release the third is the format and the forth is the encoding type. there may also other extra things with DVDRip .
Workprint (WP)
Workprint is somehow different from the original released movie. There can be scene, music missing. Also not too much popular. But a final copy of Workprint can contain extra scene along with main movie. And a final good copy of workprint can be ones collection hobby.
R5
R5 stands for DVD Region 5, that is former soviet union. It is refereed to a specific format of DVD released and bootlegged copies of these releases that are distributed on the Internet.Generally the movie quality of R5 is good.
